LPN to RN Degrees

South Dakota Nursing and Healthcare Schools

Unlike other States, the shortage of nurses and other health care providers in South Dakota is a demand-driven shortage. Hospitals, the government and non-governmental agencies are working to deal with the aging baby boomers among many other causes of the shortage. Pressures in demographics hugely influence both the demand and supply of nurses in South Dakota.

Similarly, institutions are trying to increase the sizes of classes to try to keep up with the demand of health care providers. Together, teaching institutions and the State have devised new ways of meeting the needs of the nursing shortage. This is through education partnerships. It is a one on one project where Institutions are training LPNs and RNs under one roof. The main aim of this new venture is the mutual use of resources, facilities and the mere fact that the shared faculty is utilized.

Many of the care givers already in the career also pose job dissatisfaction as another major contributor to the nursing shortage in South Dakota. The main sources of job dissatisfaction include inadequate staffing, poor working conditions, increased use of overtime, adequacy of wages, lack of adequate support staff and heavy workloads. Strategies have been created to eliminate these problems and creating careers that nurses and other healthcare providers can be happy in, while providing quality service.

As a professional nurse or health care provider, you should rest assured that the State is capable enough to handle the shortage. Measures put in place to ensure that the workforce is satisfied include:

  • To enhance job satisfaction and improve the working environment, the State of South Dakota and non governmental agencies advocate for collaboration and respect among the nurses.
  • The State is working with academic institutions to come up with programs that hone and improve the ability of existing health care providers to be as productive, competent and as knowledgeable as they can.
  • It's also working on creating attractive incentives to attract young individuals into the profession.
  • Thanks to technology, the state is working towards developing state-of-the-art models of care that will assist the service providers in delivering quality health care to the residents of South Dakota.

The State of South Dakota's main aim is to develop a positive attitude of its health care workers. Positive attitude means that the workers are happy and contented, be it in their classrooms or during working hours.

The fact that there is a shortage of health care providers makes positions for these jobs very demanding. The pay and benefit is hugely regulated by working experience, level of education and location. That notwithstanding, you are sure to find a salary scale that will suit you best.
