LPN to RN Degrees

Oklahoma Nursing and Healthcare Schools

Research shows that health care jobs, and in particular nursing are among the nation’s fastest growing job market. However, the workforce has been outpaced by the demand of nurses going up and the supply going down. The State of Oklahoma, in an effort to find a solution to the shortages experienced nationwide, is applying any possible measures to fight the nursing shortage.

It is projected that the shortage of nurses in Oklahoma will get worse before it gets better. Oklahoma recognizes the crucial task involved in training and keeping nurses working in the state. What makes the shortage in Oklahoma unique is the fact that while most other State’s shortage is created by baby boomer, in Oklahoma, it is largely due to an understaffed teaching union in nursing schools.

The major factor that the State of Oklahoma is emphasizing on is creating public-private partnerships amongst the nursing fraternity which would allow youthful men and women the opportunity to develop and pursue a career in Nursing.

The shortage of nurses can be partly attributed to the shortage of nursing instructors in private and public institutions which acts as a huge barrier to higher admittance rates in the nursing schools. Oklahoma’s Board of nursing and stakeholders in the healthcare field work towards addressing issues that is pertinent in improving the general health of the State alongside great working environment for staffs. This they do by:

  • Increasing the job satisfaction and retention rates of the current health care providers.
  • Ensuring that current education and training systems possess the necessary resources and support to be able to provide the number of competent health care providers required in the State.
  • Creating awareness among the State’s young people and adults on the great opportunities available in the health care field hence tremendously increasing the number of individuals wishing to pursue a health career.

There are recommendations and programs in place also to lessen the acute shortage. Oklahoma is working towards implementing a tuition program, and fee coverage scholarship programs. The State also proposes to provide a living stipend to interested providers who would want to pursue further education. This stipend functions by allowing a substantial cut down on work or no work at all, to allow for full time education advancement.

The sole determinant factor in the salaries of health care providers in Oklahoma is the same as that across the entire country; working experience and specific job qualifications. However, all facts withstanding, you are sure to find a salary scale that works for you.

  • Head Registered Nurse $75,000-77,000
  • LPN $35,000-40,000
  • Lab technician $ 30,000-31,000
  • Registered Nurse for Dialysis $57,670-59,000
  • Registered Nurse for Oncology $60,000-63,000
