LPN to RN Degrees

North Carolina Nursing and Healthcare Schools

The State of North Carolina embraces Health Care as one of the most important industries in the State and in the country at large. This is reflected in the many academic institutions that are gearing all efforts towards boosting the recruitment efforts of nursing students and other health care providers.

Academic options have also been expanded for people who want to pursue a nursing career. These options include long distance education programs, second degree bachelor's programs and the new information technology classes which have been incorporated in the curricula.

However, the workforce of health care providers and in particular nurses is diminishing. This is due to the fact that the elderly population is on the rise, and it is projected to continue doubling. The NC Nursing Work force alongside other professional agencies are upping their game by ensuring that any persons interested in the health care industry are well taken care of. Some of the concerns that the State continuously addresses to enhance health include:

  • Providing a conducive working environment
  • Creating affordable opportunities for education such as off-campus and online LPN to RN, RN-to-BSN, MSN and FNP programs in areas that are underserved.
  • Offering attractive pay packages to health care providers

The State of North Carolina is diversified. This should justify the reason why the State is working towards improving the cultural competence and diversity of the health care workforce by supplying nurses and other health care providers in relation to the diversified population.

Similarly, the State also works to mentor school-aged children from every county in North Carolina. It does this by encouraging school age children to participate in health care activities and programs such as summer health career camps with a major focus on enriching sciences and math, health career fairs and shadowing and mentoring experiences.

Community hospitals and health institutions have started implementing mentoring programs too. For instance, nursing leaders are paired with new and inexperienced RN graduates to mentor them. This reduces the turnover rate for new nurses and increases job satisfaction for the mentors.

There are also refresher programs and courses available for registered nurses who willingly wish to update their knowledge and skills. Similarly, there are retention strategies that help to improve the workplace and create a positive attitude towards the nursing career. Such strategies include career progression initiatives and magnet hospital models.

Theoretically, the salaries of health care providers in North Carolina, which is reflected also in many other States, is determined by working experience and facilities, level of education and of course competitive labor markets. Below you will find a general list of salaries for healthcare providers in North Carolina. You can expect to earn:

  • Registered Nurse Operating room (RN) $50,980-$69,633
  • Registered Nurse Emergency room (RN) $42,000-$68,473
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) $30,383-$38,428
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) $35,000-$40,398
