Massage Therapists can specialize in a large number of different types of
massage modalities. Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology,
acupressure, sports massage, and neuromuscular massage are just a few of the
many approaches to massage therapy. Most massage therapists specialize in
several modalities, which require different techniques.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the profession of Massage Therapy
is expected to grow 18-26 percent by 2014. Demand for Massage Therapists will be
strongest among those who complete formal training programs and become
certified.
Massage Therapists enjoy the ability to work in their choice of a diverse
variety of practice settings such as physical therapy practices, doctor’s
offices, chiropractor’s offices, fitness centers, health clubs, nursing homes,
luxury spas, airports, or aboard cruise ships to give just a few examples.
Many Massage Therapists choose to go into practice for themselves and take
patients both directly and by physician referral. Self employed Massage
Therapists earn the most and have the freedom to choose where and when they
prefer to see and treat patients and to set their own fee schedule. If you’re
