LPN to RN Degrees

Maine Nursing and Healthcare Schools

The fastest growing industry in Maine is the health care profession. As Maine's population continues to consist of aging residents, the demand for health care services will continue to grow. Currently there are not enough health care workers to keep up with the demand. Health care providers in Maine must often depend on temporary staffing agencies or traveling nurses to fill vacancies in Registered Nursing positions as well as other related health care positions. There are just not enough qualified people to fill the health care positions available in the state of Maine. Contract staffing agencies end up costing more money which in turn makes health care services more expensive to those in need of care.

Worker shortages reduce the quality of care available to the patients. The inabilities to provide good quality care because of these staff shortages; is a strong concern to Maine's communities. In addition to the rising elderly population and the extended need for long term care, there is also a growing number of youth that must be attended to. The state of Maine is making efforts to recruit new individuals into joining the health care field to overcome these shortages, to build a better health care system, and to provide adequate care to those in need.

With the internet and the extended educational opportunities in today's world, Maine is hoping to encourage individuals to seek out the necessary training to qualify them in becoming a professional health care worker. The skills you acquire to work in this ever growing profession will pave the way for a stable future and a successful career in the health care industry.

Maine has a population of over 1,300,000 people and consists of 16 counties. Eleven of these counties are designated by the HPSA as Rural health care professional shortage areas. Rural areas are often more extreme in need of health care workers because of location and limited facilities. Registered Nurses are in high demand as they provide much of the service to these residents. Another 3 counties in Maine which are urban areas are also designated by the HPSA as health professional shortage areas. These counties all have programs provided to allow loan repayments to students pursuing an education in the many health care fields, who chose to work in these communities. The state of Maine welcomes qualified Registered Nurses and other health care professionals to fill the existing vacancies and provide the much needed care to the people of their state.
