LPN to RN Degrees

Nursing and Healthcare Schools for Kansas

Kansas is home to beautiful frontier and rural country settings; yet the combined pressures of a shrinking workforce and an aging population is extremely increasing the demands for health care workers in this state. Current health care workers are reaching retirement ages. This leaves many professional positions needing to be filled. The elderly population among patients is increasing as well, most of which will need long term health care services that currently are just not available.

There is an extremely uneven distribution of essential health care resources available in Kansas, especially in medical practitioners, registered nurses and facilities. Kansas ranks 13th in the nation among the states lacking primary care services; leaving 15.4% of Kansas citizens with little or no access to primary medical care. Western and south eastern Kansas does not have the medical professionals needed to provide even the basic of care to their residents. These patients must travel and average of three hours just to receive medical care. The population in these areas consists of fewer people than in urban counties. Those with low income and the elderly make up the majority in these remote areas.

Become a Part of the Healing Mission in Kansas

Frontier and rural counties make up 1/3 of the state and these counties rely on registered nurses almost exclusively to provide for their health care needs. Without the proper number of RN's available, Kansas is finding that one nurse is often responsible for an entire area. This is a problem that can easily be addressed by simply recruiting more nurses to work in these areas. The current ratio in rural counties is 1 Dr. to every 1500 people, and in urban counties there is 1 to every 500 persons.

Federal community health care grants are available to the state of Kansas for dealing with the health care professional shortages. Programs are available to support recruitment to shortage areas. State and Federal scholarships, as well as loan repayment assistance and loan forgiveness programs are available for those wanting to work in the health care profession. Northwest Kansas is involved in a program that helps fund provisions to improve health care systems to their 200 rural hospitals. This program has funds averaging $170,000 thousand dollars a year.

Kansas is continuing to excel in making provisions to their health care services. Trained nurses and other health care professionals are highly needed to continue in this growth and development of offering and providing quality health care services in a timely manner to the people of Kansas. You can be a part of the healing mission in Kansas, when you bring your skills and training to work and help the people of this state!
