Toxicology Continuing Education Credits for EMS and Fire PersonnelAlcoholism: Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome This course teaches the basics of Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. It outlines the chronic and acute symptoms associated with Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome, and instructs students on the proper assessment and treatment modalities that should be taken when dealing with the syndrome.
Radiation: A Silent Killer Amongst Us At the end of this course, students will be able to identify radiation emergencies and how they are caused. Students will also be able to perform an accurate scene assessment and asses patients that have been involved in radiological accidents. Responders will then be able to use that knowledge to properly care for the injured and to know what precautions need to be taken in such cases.
Substance Abuse Among the Teenage Population This course will educate students in the various types of substance abuse, and how those substances affect the individuals that use them. It gives the student knowledge of the various patterns that substance abuse users form, and how to spot those patterns. After completing this course, the student will know of the various treatment programs and the different methods used in those programs.
The New Drug Problem: Teens + OTC + Prescription Drugs = Dangerous This course is designed to teach students how to recognize a new drug problem that is occurring among teens in the world today. Upon completing the course, students gain the knowledge need to to allow them to instruct others, such as doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, and EMS responders in how to identify these drugs and what to do when they are encountered. Successfully completing this course will leave the student with the ability to recognize the dangers of those under the influence of certain drugs, as well as teach students the slang terms used by people using the drugs. Students will also be taught the various types of drug paraphernalia and how to recognize what the device is used for.
