Continuing Education Credits in Infectious Disease for Fire and EMSBloodborne Pathogens This course discusses the characteristics of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. It describes the risks of exposure to healthcare professionals and how using body substance isolation can help reduce or prevent those exposures. It also describes the procedures to be taken after an exposure and how to react if exposed.
OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Training This bloodborne pathogen training session teaches the student standards in bloodborne pathogen education. It discusses epidemiology, symptoms and modes of transmission for bloodborne diseases. It goes into great detail about how to prevent and reduce exposure by using good work practices and PPE. Successful students will know the importance for required hepatitis B vaccines, and how to properly react and report any exposures involving blood or OPIM. At the end of the course, a student will not only know the correct steps to take after an exposure, but they will also know the procedures of reporting, labeling, and logging containers and hazardous containers.
