Geriatric Continuing Education Credits for Fire and EMS
Assessment and Care of the Elderly
This course teaches students to identify physiological changes that happen during the aging process, common diseases that are present in the elderly, and the physiological adjustments that the elderly must make during the normal aging process. The course also teaches the student what interventions must be implemented when assisting and caring for geriatric patients.
Completion requires a grade of 70% or better. Students will receive a certificate of completion and 3 CEC hours.
Dementia: Differential Diagnoses and Treatment
This very course provides an intriguing look at dementia. it evaluates the different types of dementia, as well as teach the student how to demonstrate differential diagnostic criteria for dementia, depression and delirium. It also stresses the pharmacological and behavioral treatment options for symptom management.
A 70% or higher grade is required for passing. The student will receive a certificate of completion and 3 continuing education credits.
Elder Abuse – JEL Health Education
This class is designed to teach a student the risk factors of elder abuse and the different types of elderly abuse commonly found. It demonstrates the signs and symptoms of abuse, both in the healthcare system and the private sector, and discusses ways of preventing elderly abuse.
Passing grades are 70% and higher. A certificate of completion and 1 continuing education credit will be given upon completion.
Preventing & Managing Dehydration in The Elderly
Dehydration in the elderly is one of the most common ailments seen in geriatric patients. This course outlines some of the outcomes of dehydration in elderly patients, as well as how to identify normal and abnormal hydration. It describes the risk factors that make the elderly vulnerable to dehydration and teaches the student the different methods needed to assess and treat dehydration.
Upon completion with at least a 70% grade, the student will be given a certificate of completion and 3 hours of continuing education credits.
