Cardiology Continuing Education Credits for EMS and Fire Services5 Steps to Rhythm Strip Interpretation This course teaches basic rhythm interpretation, as well as general anatomy and physiology of the heart and its conductive pathways. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to quickly identify common cardiac rhythms, as well as apply appropriate treatment to those rhythms. It is intended for all EMS and Firefighters that may encounter cardiac related emergencies and need to apply their knowledge to those suffering from a cardiac related event.
Acute Coronary Syndromes The acute coronary syndrome course provides a case study approach to teaching the student how to identify and treat myocardial events, such as angina, unstable angina, and myocardial infarction. By teaching a student how to recognize an acute event, as well as predict EKG changes in these events, students will be able to comfortably manage and treat them. The course provides an in-depth view into the pathophysiological happenings of the heart during these events.
Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology Revisited This is a basic cardiology course intended to serve as a beginner to intermediate level review of cardiac anatomy and physiology. Students will learn the basic anatomy, conduction, and function of the heart, as well as identify heart sounds, EKG components, the vascular system, and factors contributing to heart rate and cardiac output.
Chest Pain Students completing this short course should be able to correctly assess and treat a patient of cardiac related chest pain. It teaches students how to assess the difference between cardiac related chest pain and traumatic chest pain, and then apply the appropriate treatment.
Congestive Heart Failure: Updated 2006 An advanced course that teaches you the pathophysiology of congestive heart failure and how to apply that physiology to an assessment and treatment protocol. This course instructs the student on in-depth assessments and treatments for heart failure, and the possible effects and side effects of those treatments. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to successfully recognize the factors that contribute to congestive heart failure, as well as the long term effects on the heart.
Coronary Heart Disease in Women This class teaches students the differences in heart disease between men and women. It discusses the major influences of such things as hormones, anatomy, and risk factors associated with heart disease in women. Upoon completion, the student will be able to identify those factors, as well as learn to manage those risks.
The Pharmacologic Treatment of Hypertension This course teaches students how to properly screen a patient for hypertension and the complications that may arise. It also outlines how to correctly manage hypertension with non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic methods.
