LPN to RN Degrees

Delaware Nursing and Healthcare Schools

Health care issues are playing an increasingly important role in the state of Delaware. Shortages in nursing and other professional health care workers are a major concern for the quality care and well being of our population. There is a great need to fill these many positions with trained caring individuals who will contribute to the health and stability of our health care industry in the state of Delaware.

Currently the shortages of health care professionals are causing overcrowding in hospital emergency rooms and ambulatory diversions. Preventive and primary care, often are not provided, leaving patients to seek medical attention in the ER, only after they have become very ill. Overcrowding leads to many patients being transported by ambulance to other hospitals that are not as full. Although this is a serious problem, it also enhances opportunities for those studying in the medical field especially in Nursing. Knowing that your skills will be much needed and in high demand, it assures job placement, quick advancement and job security for the future.

The advancement of technology improves the health outcomes but as well leaves us in need of qualified technicians. Nursing shortages are posing a threat to virtually every health care facility in Delaware. An adequate number and distribution of health care professionals is fundamental in assuring access to health care services for the people in our communities. The state of Delaware has initiated programs and services to recruit nurses and other health care workers to come and join us in solving this problem and help us to provide timely access to quality care for our residents.

HPWD Health Professional Workforce Development in Delaware has put together programs to benefit students who choose to work in our communities. By offering scholarships and loan repayments, developing mentor programs for new nurses, improving the working environments for health care workers by committing to high staffing, allowing workers to concentrate on their responsibilities and not having to fill in for the duties of other staff members. Plus Delaware has implemented a residency rotation program that allows for less stress on our health care workers and offers more opportunity for advancement.

Many positions for health care workers are needing to be filled. Delaware is excited to have health care professionals join us in reaching our goals to provide preventative and primary care as well as emergency services and long term care to our population. There is high demand for nurses and other medical care providers.

  • Mental Health Nurse $61,049 - $68,078
  • OB Nurse $60,011 - $67,108
  • RN $85,565 - $98,353

Because of the shortages in health care workers, Delaware is currently 6th highest in the nation for infant deaths with a ratio of 9 in every 1000. Diabetes and other chronic illnesses are the leading cause of disability and death with 1 in 20 people who are not able to receive the ongoing care they need. As you can see this is a great problem that can be fixed by getting the proper staff of nurses and health care workers.

Delaware is very supportive of those seeking careers in these fields, encouraging evening, weekend and internet nursing schools. We hire at entry level and offer mentors to help advance your career. Make a difference and train to work in the health care field. We need you!
