Nurse Practitioners work independently in consultation with physicians , and can provide direct patient care, medical services, diagnose illnesses, recommend procedures and prescribe prescription medications. Physician assistants do not work independently as they must work under a Doctor or Registered Nurse.

Various levels of education and training are required to meet and fill these many positions. Alaska’s Health care Industry will continue to generate job opportunities.
